Baby Recovers After Cancer Treatment

A seven-month-old baby girl battling a rare and lethal cancer has successfully completed treatment at the KIMS hospital, the hospital said in a statement.
The young patient, Fathima, who hails from Oman had been flying down to Thiruvananthapuram with her parents every two weeks for chemotherapy. She was being treated for Bilateral Adrenal Neuroblastoma, an extremely rare cancer which till date has been reported in less than 50 cases worldwide, according to the hospital. “Bilateral Adrenal Neuroblastoma is a very rare cancerous condition which affects both adrenal glands,” the statement said. Dr Boben Thomas, Medical & Paediatric Oncologist and Dr Venugopal S, Head- Paediatric Surgery led the treatment. Fathima had shown signs of this rare cancer when she was barely two months old.
