Following a series of focus groups and a community conversation event, the Cannabis Reform Collaborative will submit its final advisory document on April 17, 2014.
A spokesperson said, “The Cannabis Reform Collaborative
[CRC] has been proactively completing its mandate to consult with and
collect feedback from the community. The collaborative has held seven
focus groups to gather information from various age demographics about
the topic of cannabis reform.
“Members of the public and the CRC
hosted a community conversation event in which four special guests
presented their expertise in prevention, law enforcement, addictions
treatment, and medicinal cannabis from local and international
perspectives. Over 125 individuals attended the event and people were
given the opportunity to learn more and engage with the community.
“To
date, the CRC has received 23 submissions from the private citizens and
organizations and is making one final request for those interested, to
submit by no later than 5.00pm on March 25 to bda.crc@gmail.com.
“Members
of the CRC have attended several presentations around cannabis reform
including events put on by CAN [Cannabis Awareness Network], CURB, DNDC,
and the PLP.
In addition to these outreach initiatives, an electronic survey has
been created which has garnered over 1,000 responses so far and will
close on March 25 at 5.00pm.
“This survey can be completed online.
“The
CRC is a volunteer organization and due to time constraints has
requested and received an extension to their deadline. The final
advisory document from the CRC will now be submitted to the Government
of Bermuda by April 17, 2014.”
Lead CRC Member Stratton Hatfield
stated, “The CRC has been very appreciative of those members of the
community that have provided information and their expertise in a
collaborative effort. We are looking forward to presenting our document
and final recommendations to the Government and public at large in due
time.”
